AC Coil Cleaning Services in Tampa, FL

Keep your system running strong with expert AC coil cleaning, repair, and replacement.

HVAC Coil Cleaning Services

We offer professional AC coil cleaning to safely remove buildup and restore your system’s performance. Clean coils allow for proper heat exchange, better airflow, and lower energy use. Coil cleaning is also included in our affordable AC maintenance plans.

Our AC technicians use industry-approved methods to clean indoor and outdoor coils without damaging sensitive components. A routine AC coil cleaning can improve your system’s cooling power and help lower energy consumption, especially during peak summer months. This service also helps reduce strain on your AC unit, minimizing the risk of breakdowns and extending the life of your system.

Frozen Coil Repair and Prevention

If your AC coil is iced over, we’ll diagnose the cause, safely thaw the unit, and fix the root issue—whether it’s low refrigerant, poor airflow, or clogged filters. We recommend regular maintenance, filter changes, and annual system inspections to prevent future freezing.

Often, a frozen AC coil results from a minor issue that snowballs into a major repair. Our team looks beyond the ice to identify what's really causing the problem, whether it’s dirty ducts, blower motor failure, or a faulty thermostat. We’ll fix it fast and recommend solutions to keep it from happening again. Preventive steps like changing your air filter every 30–60 days and keeping vents open throughout your home can also help.

Coil Replacement Options

When a coil is beyond repair—due to leaks, age, or corrosion—we offer expert coil replacement services. We work with top AC brands and will match your system with the right coil. Our team explains your options clearly and provides upfront pricing with no pressure.

Replacing a coil is often more cost-effective than continuing to repair an aging or leaking component. If your system is in good condition otherwise, a coil replacement can extend its life by several years. Our techs will handle the entire process, from selecting a compatible coil to installing it properly and testing the entire system before leaving your home.

This a 2nd update (January 2026) to my earlier reviews. HVAC tech Ryan came to my home just a day or two after FL-Air merged with Veteran Air. My experience with Ryan, who came for routine maintenance on the HVAC system in my home. I was appreciated Ryan's manner which was friendly and professional. I was particularly impressed with his ability to explain to me his findings and answer my questions about the inspection and maintenance he provided. Excellent service.

This is an update (July 2025) to my initial review of FL-AIR Heating & Cooling almost a year ago. HVAC tech Brandt came to my home yesterday to perform routine maintenance on our air handler. He arrived on time. His manner was courteous and professional. Brandt's work was both careful and thorough from start to finish.

During a previous appointment Brandt noticed that the insulation on the inside of the handler's front panel was peeling off. He spray-glued it back into place and anchored the perimeter with a strong adhesive tape. I appreciate that he pays attention to the details.

Before leaving, Brandt gave me a brief verbal summary of all the items he had checked and serviced. In a nutshell, my experience with FL-Air has been excellent. I give them my highest recommendation.

We’ve been with them for awhile and they have always provided great service. Yesterday was the first time we needed to call them over a weekend and their response was nothing less than outstanding. Within 90 minutes of calling they had a technician at the house diagnosing and fixing the issue. From the rep on the phone to the technician onsite, they made us feel like a valued customer.

I have now hired FLheating and air for three separate occasions. Twice for duct related issues, and most recently for a very complicated upgrade of a very old AC unit.

Their technicians and staff, in particular Brandon have always been consummate professionals. They always gave all reasonable options and what to expect in uncertain areas. Fortunately, their experience and expertise is evident when everything goes perfectly well.

They clearly take tremendous pride in their work, and I would not hesitate to hire them again or refer them to anyone I know.

What Are AC Coils and What Do They Do?

AC coils play a key role in your cooling system. Your system has two main coils: the evaporator coil (inside) and the condenser coil (outside). These coils absorb heat from inside your home and release it outdoors. When they’re dirty or damaged, your system can’t cool properly. That means higher energy bills, poor airflow, and more wear on your unit.

The evaporator coil is located near the air handler and is responsible for absorbing heat from the indoor air. The condenser coil, located in the outdoor unit, releases that heat outside. Both must be clean and in good condition to maintain proper cooling efficiency. If either coil becomes compromised, your AC system may struggle to keep your home comfortable, especially during Tampa’s hottest months.

Common AC Coil Problems

Dirty Coils

Over time, dust, dirt, and debris build up on your coils—especially in Florida’s humid climate. This layer blocks heat transfer, forcing your system to work harder. You may notice warm air, longer cooling cycles, or rising electric bills.

When dirt builds up on the evaporator coil, it can reduce airflow and efficiency, making your system run longer than necessary. Dirty coils also increase the risk of ice forming on the coil’s surface. If not addressed, this buildup can cause the coil to overheat or freeze, leading to more extensive damage. Regular coil cleaning can help prevent these issues and extend the life of your system.

Frozen Coils

A frozen coil usually means restricted airflow or a refrigerant issue. Your system might still run, but you’ll notice little to no cool air. If you see ice forming on the coil or the unit itself, shut it off and call FL-Air right away.

Frozen coils are a common problem during summer months in Tampa when AC systems are running hard. Ice on the coil can block airflow and cause your system to shut down. The root cause may be as simple as a dirty air filter or as serious as a refrigerant leak. Either way, it’s not something to ignore. Our technicians can quickly identify the issue and restore your system to proper working order.

Leaking Coils

Refrigerant leaks can happen when coils corrode or wear down. Signs include poor cooling, hissing sounds, or frozen lines. We’ll inspect your system and let you know if repair or replacement is the better option.

Leaking evaporator coils are a leading cause of poor performance and system failure. In many cases, leaks are due to corrosion caused by the reaction between moisture and the metal components of the coil. Our technicians use advanced leak detection tools to locate the problem and explain your options clearly, whether that’s a spot repair or full coil replacement.

Corrosion and Age

Coils naturally wear out over time—especially in Florida’s salty, humid air. Older coils may develop pinhole leaks or lose their ability to transfer heat efficiently.

Age and environmental conditions can significantly affect the lifespan of your AC coils. Tampa’s coastal air contains salt that accelerates corrosion, particularly on outdoor condenser coils. If your system is over 10 years old and you're experiencing cooling issues, your coils may be the reason. We can assess their condition and help you decide on the most cost-effective next step.

FAQs

How do I clean AC coils?

While there are DIY methods like using a soft brush or a store-bought coil cleaner, AC coils are delicate and easy to damage. Cleaning them properly often requires partially disassembling the unit, carefully removing the coil, and reinstalling it correctly without damaging surrounding components. That’s why we strongly recommend having a licensed HVAC technician handle the job. A professional will clean the coils thoroughly, safely, and ensure everything is put back together for optimal performance.
